Our equation is also simple: you will need a calculated, approximate $85,000 per every 1,000 square feet of shop. Here is an example list of what this price includes for a coffee shop:

The Checklist
What to do and when
- Have you established the character and identity of your operation? Do you have a name, logo, colors, etc? It is critical, for branding purposes, that you select an identity that you will love for a long time. Changing this part of your business later will prove to be detrimental or worse to your operation. RestaurantDesignSource.com has a staff of talented designers if you need assistance.
- Do you have a complete business plan? If not, you can go to www.RestaurantDesignSource.com and purchase a Quick Plan which contains the figures, operating costs, etc.
- Do you have your location? Is it secured?
- Do you have financing? Remember, you are looking at about $85,000 per 1,000 square feet of your shop.
- Architectural Design and Layout: Can your landlord send a footprint or blueprint of the location? We will need to determine if you need a basic layout or a full set of architectural drawings. This portion of the process is crucial for determining not only the look and feel of your shop, but also the level of volume your operation will be equipped to support. The cost of the layout of your shop will range from $2,500 to $12,500. This is a cost you will have to endure whether you utilize RestaurantDesignSource.com or work on your own. The Health Department and building codes in your area will determine these requirements. This part of the process is NOT included in the $85,000 per 1,000 square feet.
And Then What?
- Once the architectural design and layout is done, we will put together an Independent Operation Proposal (IOP), which will list all equipment, furniture, lighting, cabinetry, fixtures, display cases, signage, POS system, etc. It will consist of everything you need to operate your location.
- Acceptance of this proposal will be accompanied by a deposit of 50% in the form of a wire transfer, certified funds, or credit card transaction.
- You will need to hire a General Contractor to coordinate and install your operation when it arrives. In the meantime, you will need to contend with any construction or build-out issues regarding your location (make sure to negotiate as many of these issues as possible with your landlord).
- You and up to 2 additional individuals can register to attend our 3 day Basic Training at our headquarters in Louisville, KY (sorry, coffee shop operators, only). Barista Training for 3 people is $2,500 plus travel, lodging, and related expenses. The Barista Boot Camp is an extended version of Basic Training which gives helpful marketing, staff training, and operations information. Boot Camp is also for up to 3 people and is $4,000 plus travel, lodging, and related expenses. Here you will learn valuable information on how to operate your coffee shop.
- Within 4 - 6 weeks, your entire operation will arrive to you on a series of trucks, shipments, and deliveries. They will be coordinated to arrive in a 2 - 3 day sequence. Your balance of the IOP is due prior to the first day of shipment.
- While your shop is being assembled, we will work with you on your menu development and product order (if you order your consumables through Pilot Coffee Company, you will receive preferred pricing and an optional private label on our high quality coffee).
- Prepare for opening. We offer a range of marketing services which consist of written press releases announcing your opening, ad layouts, and flyers and consulting. While this is not included in the $85,000 per 1,000 feet, we would be happy to quote a marketing package for you.
What are you waiting for? FAQ.
- Are your prices on equipment and products higher than if I were to shop around and buy on my own? No! Our pricing is competitive because you are tapping into the buying power of a huge network. We generate our revenues from the vendors we do business with, not you, our client. Our vendors are the best in the business.
- You're an Internet business. How do I know you won't take my money and be gone before I receive my delivery? While we are an Internet-based business, we also have physical, brick and mortar headquarters in Louisville, KY. RestaurantDesignSource.com has worked with many satisfied clients in the past and will continue to do so.
- Will I ever meet you face to face or will all business be conducted on the Internet or by telephone and fax? There will be times during the process that warrant one of our representatives to visit your site. We do like to establish a friendly business relationship with our clients and most likely will be making more than one trip to your site to get to know you and your operation. Our system is highly streamlined and does not require a lot of face to face interaction. The only travel you should anticipate will be to Louisville, KY for your training. The training is optional but we consider it necessary.
